Have you ever been sent an e-mail that really intrigued you so much that you opened it, and clicked on the link to discover how some so-called internet guru manages to "siphon" a large amount of money regularly into their bank account using some kind of "secret loophole"?
Yes, of course you have, we all have - many times probably! We all get dragged into yet another long one page sales letter with lots of bold statements and claims, photos of luxury homes and fast cars that we surmise are owned by the author, shots of supposedly genuine Clickbank statements with "evidence" of wheelbarrow loads of cash shoved in daily, and reasons why the finder of this "underground" method is altruistically selling it to you - for only $37!
The sad thing is that these ubiquitous nasty brash sales sites selling "get rich quick" systems and software are often the first introduction many people get into the world of Internet Marketing.
Yes, maybe if I saw one for the very first time, I would be tempted too. I suppose I would have thought myself lucky having "stumbled" on this "very secret site". Maybe I would have dashed to get my credit card out of my wallet as this system, implying it could pour thousands daily into my account, was only available for the next 9 customers...and then the site was coming down!
The even sadder thing is that once many folk buy the product, many are disappointed by it, and either get a refund or simply take it on the chin and don’t bother, thinking Internet Marketing is simply not for them.
It’s a real shame as I know that it’s perfectly possible to make a good income from selling on the internet, and some – and I say some - of the products sold with the hype-filled sales pages are actually perfectly useful tools or programs when you eventually get them.
But the strange thing is that many of the designers, writers or programmers of new Internet Marketing products get persuaded into selling using these crazy sales pages. They are similar in look, with graphics and buttons and phrases that seem to come from the same design agency.
Why don’t they appeal to the sensible, level headed people among us, and tell us exactly what their product is? If it’s for example article spinning software and an auto submitter, tell us! If it’s a basic Internet Marketing training programme with a few free sites thrown in, tell us! If it’s automatic backlink submission software, then please, tell us! But oh, no, most new products have to be called daft titles such as "Auto Traffic Cash Extreme Syphon Empire" or some such nonsense with all the marketing catch phrases and gimmicks they think will make it successful.
If you’re a so-called "newbie" that has given up after getting their fingers burnt on buying some sad, disappointing "push button" system, let’s get things straight.
- Even if that guru really DID make the $289,655, or whatever "on autopilot", last month, why would they REALLY want to sell the system? Why would they go to all the trouble, and be so desperate to stop you clicking away with one of those annoying "WAIT! PRESS CANCEL FOR A SPECIAL OFFER" pop-up boxes?
- If their system really did make shed loads of cash, why bother pleading with us to buy the damn thing for $20 less if you try
and click away?
- Why would any downloadable product ever be "sold out"?
- If there really were only 9 more copies, why would the graphic nearly always show something like a 300, 150 and 50 crossed out with red crayon before showing the 9? Surely the site would simply auto update, or just the number "9" would be displayed?
- Why as soon as you buy the product are you taken to endless "upsell" pages implying that the $37 basic product is in reality useless without also buying these upsells?
Very deep sigh. So newbie, are we feeling embarrassed and a little ashamed? That’s OK, we’ve all been there, overtaken by greed and a hope that there really IS a magic push-button fast money-making system out there.
But here’s the good news – yes, there are many ways to make very decent money online using a variety of Internet Marketing techniques. Most techniques of which you won’t know about by dodgy spammed emails to your in-box.
But there is one extra ingredient that every product needs to be able to work, and that’s your time and your hard work. Put off already? Oh dear. Then go back to buying lottery tickets, because there honestly isn’t any magic get-rich quick system out there. There really isn’t. If you’re prepared to learn and apply what you’ve learnt in a professional and ethical manner, the rewards can be very high. There are some very valuable Internet Marketing training courses and products out there; you just have to find them.
Last year some colleagues and myself started the Internet Training School site which gave independent reviews to all sorts of products that are worth investigating. Decent, useful products that actually make help you on the path to being an internet millionaire!
Basically, there are three types of products and resources:
1 ) Free resources such as website tools, software to create sites or pdf docs, graphics, slide shows, videos or whatever...
2) Training courses. There are loads of really good, comprehensive courses out there specialising on traffic, list building, site creation, making web videos and so on. Knowledge is power. Once you know how to do something yourself, why pay others to do these things for you? It’s more fun as well, especially designing and creating your own web sites.
3) Software. There are all sorts of software systems you can buy or subscribe to. These range from autoresponders – systems that automatically e-mail people on your opt-in list – to backlink submitters – that help boost your website’s ranking in search engines.
So, dear "newbie" – don’t give up on Internet Marketing thinking the world is full of scammers and charlatans. Get some decent training, invest in the products that are genuinely useful to you in the field that you want to specialise in and have fun!
When you’ve researched, designed, coded and uploaded your first site – the feeling of seeing it live on the net is amazing. Then putting into action all the SEO – Search Engine Optimisation - techniques to attract visitors to your offers and get you your first sales...is even more mind blowing.
Once you experience success in that first small way, you simply "rinse and repeat" and optimise your way to success. Then one day you really WILL make $289,655 in one month. But this time, honestly, ethically and genuinely! And maybe that photo of that huge house will actually be yours! Good luck in your efforts!
